BEVERLY AFTER DARK
Equally as relevant 35 years after it was released, They Live is a smart satire of class structure and media control, wrapped up in Carpenter's signature style of B-movie action and laughs.
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass...."
John Nada is a tough loner living on the streets, played by world class wrestler slash Hollywood tough guy Rowdy Roddy Piper. Life is rough at the bottom of the food chain in America. Running into some activists, he finds magic sunglasses that show the world as it truly is - aliens secretly run the country and keep everyday people subdued through subliminal messages throughout the media. If you know Shepard Fairey's Obey stickers and street art, you gotta see this film.
It's up to Piper to convince fellow tough guy Frank, played by genius character actor Keith David, to see the truth and help John save Earth. It will take one of the best fistfights in movie history.
