The 1998 surrealist psychological thriller stars Sean Gullette as a mathematician who becomes obsessed with searching for patterns in the universe as part of a quest for meaning.

Before Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan, Darren Aronofsky's debut feature was an indie hit, establishing his kinetic style and psychological themes. Made for only $60,000, the film ended up winning the Best Director Award at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival, the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay and the Gotham Open Palm Award for new directors.
